Forgiveness Process
What is Forgiveness?
The word "FORGIVENESS" is often a loaded and misunderstood word, and that has deterred many from wanting to forgive. Some initially thought they had already forgiven, or had no-one to forgive, only to realise that bitterness and anger at themselves and others were brimming below the surface and colouring their attitude to life.
The act of forgiving is not easy. Yet, true forgiveness is essential in our personal and spiritual healing and growth. When we attack or hold a grievance against others, there is something that we are not forgiving within ourselves. The lack of forgiveness affects everything in our lives and we see things tinged with the fear of separateness.
What is this based on?
It has well been established in humanistic psychotherapy, the discipline I am trained in, the importance of focusing on the body to release suppressed emotions that are stored in our cellular memories.
When I came across The Journey by Brandon Bays, a leading mind-body expert, I was intrigued because it corresponded to the experiences I had with my clients in the work I do, either in psychotherapy, past regression or reiki treatments.
In the Journey, Brandon described her own dramatic experience. In 1992, she was diagnosed with a large tumour in her womb. Determined to fully utilise her own resources, she drew upon her skills and experiences and created the powerful self-discovery process, now called "The Journey". Six and a half weeks later, she was pronounced by medical doctors tumour free without drugs or surgery.
In 2007, I attended her Intensive and Advanced Skills Intensive and underwent several Journeys myself (to date, twenty). I had since completed many "journeys" with my clients. The beauty of Brandon's Journey was that it included a forgiveness process. This ties in with the work I have been doing in my Forgiveness workshops.
What is the Forgiveness Process?
The forgiveness process is a one-on-one three hour session (either face-to-face or over the phone) which is adapted from Brandon's Journey work and includes a hypnotherapy induction. You are guided in a safe and gentle way which takes you down to the different layers of your emotions and relates them to your cellular memories. This process triggers past traumatic events and provides you with an opportunity to converse with those who had caused you pain, to understand them, if not at the personality level, then the soul level and to forgive them, and your younger self.
No two processes are the same. All processes are tailored to suit your needs and can last up to three hours. This allows us the time to honour and follow whatever your body wishes to reveal and heal.
What could happen afterwards?
As the body detoxifies, you may feel tired initially as shifts start to happen. Know that this is the beginning of a process and while there are many who feel their pain miraculously disappearing, healing for others may take time as the body starts to regenerate.
While some may feel lighter, energised or with a sense of well-being, others may come face to face with their resistances to healing that have been harbouring deep within and now that this is emerging, they learn to engage with these resistances before going deeper.
In fact, many processes I have with my clients start with this resistance. Others describe it as a not knowing, their ego, defences, blankness, emptiness, void, stuckness, cynicism, scepticism, stubbornness, even hostility. This part has served us so well in protecting us from pain in the past, it is not ready to give up that easily.
Know with certainty you have opened the door to possibilities and that while some find it easy to forgive their perpetrators, others may take time. The effects may be subtle, and it may only be later that you realise a difficult emotion or habit no longer arises or pain has vanished or your relationships have improved.
How many Sessions will you need?
One session is often all you need to heal a particular issue. Sometimes there maybe many issues related to one particular problem. Clearly, a number of sessions will be required to clear this. If you want to continue working on your various issues, then regular sessions are powerful.
How can you maximize the benefit of the Process?
Once you agree to undertake the process, I will send you a document gleaned from my experiences and work with Forgiveness. Please read it before attending the session.
Please eat lightly beforehand to allow room for emotions to come up. If you find that emotions come up just before the process, welcome them and allow them to be present. After the session, please take it easy for the rest of the day to allow for integration. The process brings up intense cellular activities and detoxification. The cleansing process may last a few days, during which time emotions or memories may surface and be liberated as the healing takes its course.
To complete the Process, I will email you a synopsis of your Process for your future reference.
